The VACSAL State-wide Bill Muir Memorial Basketbal

Apr 15 2015

The VACSAL State-wide Bill Muir Memorial Basketball Classic was a huge hit for the Victorian Aboriginal Community this year and with some of Victoria’s best Aboriginal basketball players taking the court it stood to be a highlight for Shepparton that weekend. It is estimated that over the 2 days there was around 3000 people attend the event which is fantastic to see our mob all congregated to the one place in such a positive atmosphere.

The VACSAL State-wide Bill Muir Memorial Basketball Classic was enticed to Shepparton in 2014 as part of  a three years of free use of the Staduim and in doing so has grown from some 50 teams last year to 77 teams this year incorporating Indigenous players including age groups from under 12’s to b grade and a grade men and women.

One of the highlights was WNBL player Michelle Cosier taking the court for the Bairnsdale A-Women’s team, who after a season injury with the Canberra Capitals looked at the carnival to lift her form and profile for the up-coming WNBL
Season.

VACSAL would like to thank the support of the Greater Shepparton Basketball Association who assisted the organising committee to run this tournament look forward to some extremely strong and exciting competitions being conducted over the remaining 2 years of the agreement. We would also like to thank all the communities that competed this year and look forward to bigger and better classic next year.
