Aboriginal Best Start Forum

Sep 07 2021

The VACSAL Aboriginal Best Start Project Team delivered two highly successful Aboriginal Best Start forums via online platform, Tuesday 7th September 2021, to a diverse range of over 170 participants currently working in varying roles across the state of Victoria supporting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Children aged 0 – 8 years and their families.

The forum’s theme was “Boorais Busting Barriers” targeting Aboriginal and Universal (or Generalist?) Best Start Site Facilitators, Best Start Partnership Team members, and various staff members from Aboriginal Community Controlled Agencies (ACCO’s) and the Department of Education and Training (DET).

Participants heard from Key Note Guest Speakers; VACSAL CEO, VAEAI Program and Policy Manager, Delkaia Aboriginal Best Start Facilitator, and DET Senior Policy Officer regarding current programs on offer to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Children aged 0 – 8 years, and families accessing Early Years Services and support.

Attendees also gained further insight with regard to Best Start Partnership PDSA Site Plans and relevant School Entrant Health Questionnaire (SEHQ) data.

Participants remained thoroughly engaged throughout the course of the day.

By all accounts, VACSAL’s Aboriginal Best Start online forum was very well received by all, with participants leaving the forum feeling well informed and revitalised.

Many thanks to the VACSAL Aboriginal Best Start Project Team on a job well done!
